Step1: Download the Microsoft Authenticator Application
On your mobile device, open the Apple App Store (for iOS) or the Google Play Store (for Android). Search for Microsoft Authenticator and download the application.
Step 2: Sign in to Microsoft 365
On a computer, open a web browser and navigate to one of the following:
- The general Microsoft 365 login portal: https://login.microsoftonline.com/
- The official OneLogin portal of European University Cyprus:
https://gge-cyp.onelogin.com/
Use your European University Cyprus credentials to continue the sign-in process.
Step 3: Open Your Microsoft 365 Profile
On the bottom-left corner of your screen, click on your initials (or your name).
From the menu that appears, select “My Microsoft 365 Profile” to access the Account Manager menu.
Step 4: Access Security Information Settings
From the account manager menu, select “Security & Privacy”.
Next, click on the My Account portal link in order to be redirected directly to your Security Information page.
Step 5: Update Your Security Information
On the My Account page, go to the “Security Info” section and click on “Update Info”. This will allow you to manage and update your authentication methods.
Step 6: Add a New Security Method
In the left-hand menu, select “Security Info” and then click on the “+ Add method” button. The Add a method dialog box will appear on your screen.
Step 7: Choose the Authenticator App
On the “Add a method” page, select “Authenticator app” from the list of available options, and then click “Add” to continue.
Step 8: Install and Link the Microsoft Authenticator App
On the “Start by getting the app” page, click “Download now” to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
Once the installation is complete:
- Scan the QR code displayed on your screen using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
- After scanning, select “Next” to proceed with the setup.
Step 9: Set Up Your Account
On your desktop or laptop, go to the “Set up your account” page.
At the same time, complete the setup of the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, ensuring that your account is correctly linked.
Step 10: Configure the Authenticator App
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
- If prompted, allow notifications.
- Select “Add Account” and then choose “Work or School account”.
- Choose “Scan QR Code” and use your mobile device to scan the code shown on your computer screen.
Note: If the app redirects you to a sign-in screen instead of showing the QR code option, click Cancel. Then, restart the process by selecting Add Account → Work or School account again. You should be looking for the “Scan QR Code” prompt.
Step 11: Confirm QR Code Scan
On your computer, once you have scanned the QR code with the Microsoft Authenticator app, click “Next” on the “Scan the QR code” page to proceed.
Step 12: Receive the Verification Notification
A notification will be sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
When prompted, open the notification and approve the sign-in request to verify that the app is correctly linked to your account.
Step 13: Verify and Confirm
On your mobile device, open the Microsoft Authenticator app notification.
Enter the number displayed on your computer screen into the app, and then tap “Yes” to approve the sign-in request.
This step confirms that your two-factor authentication (2FA) setup has been successfully completed.
Important: Each student will see a different number displayed on their own computer screen. Make sure to enter the exact number shown to you in the Microsoft Authenticator app before tapping “Yes”.
Step 14: Final Approval
On your mobile device, open the notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app and tap Approve.
After approving, return to your computer and select “Next” to continue.
This final confirmation ensures that your account is now secured with two-factor authentication (2FA).
Note: From now on, each time you sign in to your university email account, a notification will be sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
You will be required to approve the notification in order to complete the sign-in process.
On devices where you have recently signed in and previously approved the login, you may not be prompted to approve again. This is because the system uses cookies to recognize that the device has already been verified.
