This article provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for resolving performance issues when Blackboard Ultra is slow or not loading properly. It includes tips on browser compatibility, network stability, cache clearing, disabling extensions, and testing on other devices or networks to improve speed and accessibility.
Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide when Ultra is slow or won’t load:
1. Use a supported, up-to-date browser & clear cache
Blackboard recommends the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox; if you run into issues, switch between them to see if one performs better.
Periodically clear your browser’s cache, cookies, and history (select “All time” or “Everything”)—cached files can prevent new content from loading correctly.
2. Close unneeded tabs & applications
Each open tab or running application consumes CPU and memory. Close all non-essential programs, then fully exit and relaunch your browser with just Ultra open.
If you use collaborative apps (Zoom, Teams, Skype), make sure they’re not holding onto your mic/camera or hogging bandwidth.
3. Check your network connection
Poor Wi-Fi can cause timeouts or very slow page loads. If possible, switch to a wired Ethernet connection or move closer to your router.
Run a quick speed test—you ideally want at least 10 Mbps down/up for multimedia-rich pages.
4. Disable browser extensions & allow third-party cookies
Content blockers, ad blockers, or strict privacy extensions can break Ultra’s rich-content editor. Temporarily disable them or add your Blackboard domain to their “allow” list.
Ensure your browser accepts third-party cookies so authentication tokens and embedded widgets load properly.
5. Try incognito/private mode or another device
A clean profile can reveal if a local setting is at fault. Open an incognito/private window and log in again.
If you have access to another computer or a different network (e.g. a phone hotspot), test there to isolate whether it’s your machine or your campus network.
Note:
If your computer is old and tends to overheat during use, this is most likely the cause of the performance issue.
